The Virtues and Blessings of Friday (Jumu'ah) in Islam

Friday, known as Jumu’ah, holds a special place in Islam. It is more than just the end of the workweek; it is the most blessed day of the week, a day filled with mercy, forgiveness, and spiritual rewards.

1️⃣ The Significance of Jumu’ah in Islam

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized the importance of Friday, saying:

“The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday. On it, Adam was created, on it he was made to enter Paradise, and on it, he was expelled from it. And the Last Hour will take place on no other day than Friday.” (Sahih Muslim: 854)

This hadith highlights the historical and spiritual significance of Jumu’ah in Islam.

2️⃣ The Reward of Attending Jumu’ah Prayer

Jumu’ah prayer is an obligatory act for every adult Muslim male. The Qur’an commands:

“O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for Jumu’ah (Friday) prayer, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you if you only knew.” (Surah Al-Jumu’ah 62:9)

Attending the Friday prayer brings immense blessings, and missing it without a valid reason can lead to serious consequences.

3️⃣ Special Acts of Worship on Friday

To make the most of Jumu’ah, Muslims are encouraged to engage in extra acts of worship, such as:

Reciting Surah Al-Kahf – The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“Whoever reads Surah Al-Kahf on Friday will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.” (Sahih al-Jami’: 6470)

Sending Salawat upon the Prophet (ﷺ)

“Increase in sending blessings upon me on the day of Jumu’ah, for indeed your blessings are presented to me.” (Sunan Abi Dawood: 1531)

Making Du’a, especially during the last hour before Maghrib – It is a time when du’as are accepted (Sahih Bukhari: 935).

4️⃣ The Importance of Cleanliness and Dressing Well

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized cleanliness and good appearance on Jumu’ah:

“Taking a bath on Friday is obligatory for every adult Muslim, as well as using the Miswak and applying perfume.” (Sahih Bukhari: 880)

Wearing clean clothes and applying perfume adds to the beauty of this blessed day.

5️⃣ Jumu’ah: A Day of Mercy and Forgiveness

Friday is a day of forgiveness and divine mercy. It is a time to reflect on our deeds, seek forgiveness, and draw closer to Allah. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“On Friday, there is an hour when if a Muslim stands in prayer and asks Allah for something, He will grant it.” (Sahih Bukhari: 935)

Conclusion

Jumu’ah is a gift from Allah to the Muslim Ummah. It is a day to renew faith, seek forgiveness, and increase in worship. By making the most of this blessed day, we can earn great rewards and strengthen our connection with Allah.

May Allah bless us all with the ability to honor and benefit from the blessings of Jumu’ah. Ameen! 🤲
